A lucky bidder was able to snatch this blue monochrome bowl, marked with the double rings and six character Jiajing reign mark. This was sold on our May 7th auction to a lucky buyer from China. The previous owner was pleased to have sold this cup through our auction.
Our in-house appraiser and owner of Royal Auctions believes that this bowl could have fetched a higher price, given the reign mark and the uncommon nature of this type of porcelain. "Our client is happy with the results, because this bowl sold for more than what he originally wanted. The reality is, this was almost a discount price for the buyer from China."
The final price for this bowl was $4,000 USD (premium not included). "A guan ware of this nature could easily be sold for double the price in mainland China. The buyer obviously knew what he was bidding for and got what he wanted" was the conclusion of Royal Auction's appraiser and owner.
