Yuan: Sapphire Glaze and Gold Gilted Dish

Description

 

A sapphire blue glazed dish with floral patterend rims and gold gilted designs depicting flowers. The bottom rim is unglazed with five protruding lumps, likely a leftover of the creation process. 

 

Literature

 

The Baoding treasure was discovered at Baoding in Hebei province in 1964. It contained eleven pieces of exquisite Yuan porcelain. Since these ceramics are amongs the most well-preserved, they are among the most published and exhibited discoveries since the revolution in 1949. Of the eleven pieces, a sapphire glazed and gilt prunus cup was among them and is currently housed in Hebei Provincial Museum.
